first_img Facebook Twitter Google+ Behind a shutout from Jocelyn Cater, Syracuse (8-11, 0-3 Atlantic Coast) defeated Pennsylvania (4-4) 2-0 in Clearwater, Florida on Tuesday evening. The game was the first shutout of Cater’s career.In the first inning, Penn looked set to score before SU center fielder Maddi Doane threw Kanani Datan out at home. Doane walked and stole a base in the bottom half of the inning but was stranded on third.Cater struck out six of the next 10 Penn batters but SU was still unable to break through offensively, mustering only two hits in the first five innings.Corinne Ozanne walked to lead off the sixth before Alyssa Dewes subbed in to pinch run. Dewes promptly stole second and reached third on a passed ball. After Sydney O’Hara walked to load the bases, Cater helped herself out by singling home two runs.After a strikeout to lead off the seventh, Cater allowed a double.
