It appeared to be more burning of the Wekiva State Park area. It may have been something else, or it could of been further out, maybe Rock Springs area, or Rock Spring Reserve. It is hard to determine where the fire is burning unless you go drive and follow the smoke. Often you can run out a lot of gas, trying to determine exactly where the fire location is. Does anyone know what was on fire yesterday toward the east of Rock Springs Road? I suspect MORE controlled burns! Please enter your comment! Mama Mia June 16, 2016 at 9:47 am June 16, 2016 at 10:11 am Reply Mama Mia Do I need to talk to our state representative?…..no. She is hardly ever there, just her interns, and they take the information down in detail, that you supply them, and they pass it on to her, then you never hear back anything from her. So I will pass on visiting her again. Truly a waste of my time. If anyone knows of any controlled burns happening, post something here and we will all know what is going on! 5 COMMENTS Oh yeah, and while I am thinking about it, and because I don’t have Facebook to post comments, while looking at the City of Apopka’s Facebook website, someone needs to tell the scientist from SJWM, who is shown in the photo on the website while mapping the eel grass on the eastern shore of Lake Apopka, in waist deep water, TO GET THE HECK OUT OF THAT WATER, BEFORE HE GETS ATE BY A BIG GATOR!! Since the Disney episode of the child dragged under the water, and killed by an alligator, and listening to the experts discussing alligators and safety, the expert said to never be in any lake’s water near the shore where there is heavy vegetation!! Mapping the eel grass may be important, but NOT THAT IMPORTANT!!! There are monster gators in that lake……just saying!!!! Also not to mention the muck bogs on the bottom…..you could take one step, and it would be goodbye……… Please enter your name here Mama Mia Let me be crystal clear about my concerns that I brought to Ms. Sullivan’s office. I went to talk with Ms. Sullivan about the over burning of the forests in this state, which is stated as needed because of controlling wildfires. The smoke is a health issue to many people, especially those with asthma. The smoke makes driving harder. It is destroying animal nests, burning some animals, who die or suffer, and defoliating the natural habitat for our native wildlife. Control burns are necessary to some degree, but our state’s lands are being over burnt! They even burnt the Wekiva State Park right to where people were camped in their camping trailers recently! Can you imagine if you were there to enjoy your summer vacation and that happened? Now, here is what I highly suspect with the most recent burnings. 600+ acres burned in Ocala forest just very recently, which is a national forest, but in the state of Florida, a black bear concentrated area. Rock Springs Reserve burnt near 46 near the bear overpasses, not to mention the various SJWM areas. They even burn the Northshore Area of Lake Apopka, which is a bird sanctuary area! The Sandcrane Restoration area on Welch! Do you see, in part, what is happening here? I do. They are preparing for the next bear hunt that supposedly has not been determined to begin again this year yet. They supposedly have 4 options that the FWC is weighing……right, yeah sure. They are forcing the bears to go to other areas, thus corralling them into thicker areas. Anyone can figure that out. It is not fair, it is wrong, and immoral. It may be different groups of authority conducting the burns, but the results are the same. Now Ms. Sullivan’s office did get back with me today, but the bottom line is this: I was told my concerns could be brought up at the next legislation session, but there is a certain process that has to take place. I asked when that is. I was told the legislation session starts in November. I said, well that won’t do, because if a bear hunt happens this year again, it will take place in October, and that will be too late, as far as the bear hunt is concerned, with the over burning. Do you see what is going on? All these burns are NOT for wildfire control!!!!
