Photo credit: facebookGeneral Secretary of the Dominica Public Service Union (DSPU) Thomas Letang says he is concerned about the future of the Public Works Department where a number of Dominicans are employed.PSU officials met with management of public works last week to discuss an ongoing financial crisis there which has resulted in the nonpayment of salaries for two consecutive fortnights.Though the company was able to pay some of its employees after meeting with the PSU last week it is still not known when the other workers will be paid.“If people who get contracts can be influenced to give some work to the Public Works that can help the situation. I expect that after the budget is presented, central government can engage public works to do some jobs. If the debt that is owed to Public Works is settled, that can help resolve the problems,” he said.Letang says if the situation there is not addressed now it could result in the collapse of the company.“The people are disappointed and depressed that they are not being paid…I think management, the union and policy makes should sit down and address the situation,” he said.Dominica Vibes Newslast_img
